Do you guys remember the part of The Catcher in the Rye, when Holden goes to find Phoebe in her school and he notices the ugly writing on the walkway? Why do you think this bothered Holden? My take on this is that Holden thinks its to grown up for the children. Because he doesn't want them to grow up he notices that this might speed up there becoming less innocent. Because of this Holden gets angry at whomever wrote the disgusting thing on the wall. Here is a picture of Phoebe, Holden's sister who Holden wants to save from growing up.
